Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFI-I)

As a disciplined, instrument rated pilot, you are acutely aware of the demands of precision flying. As a caring and dedicated mentor and Certified Flight Instructor, you are prepared to guide Aviators. The NextGen CFI-I program combines those talents to instruct in the more advanced world of instrument flying.

Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFI-I)

Requirements for the CFI-I are:

Valid commercial pilot w/ instrument rating or ATP Certificate

Read, speak, write, and understand English

At least 15 hours PIC in the category and class of aircraft appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought.

3rd class or higher medical

Since this is an “add-on”, there are no written test (knowledge) requirements

Practical test prep flights within the preceding 2 calendar months with an authorized CFI (per §61.39(a)6)

At least 18 years old

There is no flight time requirement for the CFI-I
