When you have become a Private Pilot, you will have attained higher level of confidence, empowerment and self-worth. You will be able climb above the earth and reflect on your personal achievements. You will also be able to recognize how you can contribute to the world around you.

Private Pilots can also:

  • Share Flying with Family and Friends
    • Private Pilots are allowed to carry passengers, just not for hire. 
      • Interestingly enough, private pilots can split the costs of a flight with friends and family.
      • If you have one other person, then you can divide the costs in half. If there are four of you, you must pay for a quarter. Costs can include rental fees, fuel, and whatever other costs are associated with the actual flight.
    • If you are rated to fly single-engine land airplanes, you can fly any of them, so long as they are less than 12,500 pounds and not turbine powered.
  • Fly at Night
    • Your training included a few hours of night flight, and you’re allowed to fly anytime you like.
    • Night flights are a lot of fun since they provide a beautiful view of the world from above, especially over cities. Airports are neat at night, too
  • Learn a New Skill
    • Aerobatics,
    • Flying a taildragger
    • Mountain flying. These are all skills that your license allows you to do, but they generally aren’t covered in your training.
    • And, of course, many pilots love honing their skills enough to pursue other ratings. The instrument rating takes your flying to the next level.
  • Take a Business Trip
  • Fly For a Charity
  • Go Traveling and Sightseeing

Private Pilot Minimums

  • Be Able to Read, Write and Converse Fluently in English
  • 40 Hours Total Flight Time ​
  • 20 Hours Dual Flight Training
  • 10 Hours Solo Flight
  • Written Exam 
  • Hold a FAA Medical Certificate or BasicMed
  • Checkride

Our Part 141 program provides a time sensitive training environment, while our Part 61 program provides a flexible training environment to meet your schedule. In both programs you will achieve your Student Pilot Certificate and Private Pilot Certificate.
